York is a freeware network monitoring app and network auditor developed by The SZ Development for Windows. It's advanced, user friendly and light on system resources.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of York to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this network monitoring program.
York::Log all network traffic
Log source, destination and packet size of all network traffic on your network, of course also outbound traffic. The network card will be set into promiscuous mode. Save sniffed HTTP and FTP files.
Features of York
- Columns in the log file are tabulator separated for easy import into Excel for example.
- Log source, destination [fqdn or ip address] and packet size of all network traffic on your network, of course also outbound traffic.
- Multiple filters can be used to search in the database.
- Restrict captured traffic by tcpdump filters.
- Save sniffed HTTP and FTP files. Just for fun, pictures are shown in a slideshow and in a screensaver like window.
- Select a client and follow his clicks in your browser.
- Sniff for HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, SMB, VNC and AIM password/hash and HTTP cookies like 'GX'.
- Traffic can be captured into a pcap file, send from a pcap file and replayed from a pcap file.
- Write the logs into a MySQL database.
Compatibility and License
York is provided under a freeware license on Windows from network auditing software with no restrictions on usage. Download and installation of this PC software is free and 1.66 is the latest version last time we checked.
